I wrote my first novel using MS Word, and after the manuscript sat on various hard drives for over 10 years, I had no idea I would need to reformat it in an entirely different program for it to be appropriately ready to publish. Pre-publishing, I used Atticus to format the manuscript, but with that tool, there were incompatibilities and formatting issues with the epub and the print output.
This time around, I’m using Scrivener to hopefully be able to write and format my manuscript all in one program—I also won’t take over 10 years to complete the entire process, from draft to beta to ARC to publishing.
I learned a lot publishing Vanguardian: Book I, and I’m now incorporating all that knowledge to speed up the entire process for Book II. Deadline for the complete first draft: August 31st, 2026.
